When I first spotted Hajrudin at the Dressrosa Colosseum, my initial impression was that of another one-shot gladiator. Big dude with a hammer, Viking look, gets KO’d by Luffy and we never see him again. Boy, was I wrong.
Fast forward and Hajrudin in One Piece is now one of the most intriguing characters to follow. He’s not just some background warrior anymore. he’s the captain of the New Giant Warrior Pirates, leader of Luffy’s Sixth Fleet, and with the Elbaf Arc on deck he has potential to really grow. Here is what you need to know about his past and future.
Who Is Hajrudin? The Basics You Need
Hajrudin’s a giant warrior prince of Elbaf, and I do mean giant. I’m speaking tall-as-a-column-over most characters, with that huge hammer and the classic Viking roots look mixed with the fur-lined cloak. He first appeared in the Dressrosa Colosseum in his bid for the Mera Mera no Mi, and yes, Luffy’s Gear 2 kicked him like nothing.
But here’s what I held on to despite losing, he saved Usopp and swore complete allegiance to the Straw Hats. They don’t just bring that out every day. Even the vanquished either disappear or hold a grudge. Hajrudin? There was something worth following in Luffy!
Since then, there’s been an appointment of him being a captain with the New Giant Warrior Pirates and he leads the Sixth Fleet under the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. He’s essentially creating the once-legendary warrior culture of Elbaf all over again through his crew, which is extremely ambitious if you ask me.
What Makes Hajrudin Special Now
His Raw Strength Is Ridiculous
Let me paint a picture. During his Dressrossa bout, Hajrudin got hit with a 10,000 ton strike by Machvise and didn’t just tank it…he sent that dude flying back towards the Birdcage. That’s not how it should be, even for a giant.
The guy was bloody and wafer-thin, but he fought his way to the victory. His pain threshold is in the record books. When I read that chapter, I remember thinking “ok so this character is dope.”
He’s Got That Warrior Honor Thing Down
What really makes Hajrudin a unique power character, though, is his ancient Elbaf-ian culture. He’s also now actively recruiting fellow giants to resurrect the storied Giant Warrior Pirates, and it suggests that he’s not just all about personal strength he’s into the long-term legacy, tradition and community.

It is the age old One Piece motif: strength with no direction is meaningless. Hajrudin gets that.
But There’s a Massive Gap
Here’s the rub and it’s a $9 trillion one. For how tough Hajrudin clearly is, we have yet to see him make any use of Haki. None. Zero. And in the One Piece power structure right now, that’s very bad.
You can be as physically strong as you like, the moment you don’t have any Haki whatsoever, unless you are up against fodder you are screwed. Logia users? Forget it. Advanced fighters? Not a chance. It is the only thing standing between him and legitimate top-tier status.
What to Expect Next: Everything Changes with the Elbaf Arc
Haki is More or Less Confirmed by Now
So that’s where it gets interesting. Elbaf arc now and everything suggests Hajrudin will awake either Armament or COC haki. And honestly? It makes perfect sense.
The culture of Elbaf is entirely warrior and combat-related, plus there’s that whole royal lineage to consider with Hajrudin. If there ever was a time for him to release Haki, it’s now. And I’m gambling we’ll see it activated during his feud with Loki but more on that in a sec.
Once he has Armament Haki, his entire tier list is different. All of a sudden those 10,000-ton punches are Haki-imbued devastation. His hammer actually becomes a threat to real opponents. You get the idea.
The Devil Fruit Mystery
There has been some discussion about Hajrudin being a potential for a devil’s fruit as well, an Ancient Royal Paramecia that was passed down through King Harald. Now, we can’t verify that. it’s still in the realm of theory, but there’s a set-up here.
If the royal blood lines of Elbaf are empowered by some powerful Devil Fruits, and Hajrudin is making good on his right to one of these fruits, then pursuing this history makes sense as a rule to become an equal (or even greater) than Loki. And, it would justify his desire to take on the name of the real Giant King.
Personally? I would like a Paramecia or Zoan that enhances his natural strength. Something that plays to its overall giantness, rather than overrides it.
The Loki Rivalry Is About to Boil Over
Elbaf is clearly one big setup for Hajrudin’s feud with Loki and rise to the crown this feels like it’s gonna be his arc. It’s not that they are power-hungry, but more about legitimacy, leadership and what it takes to be a real king of the giants.
His growth narrative right now is learning to fuse that personal strength with leadership qualities, all of which will presumably build toward some future showdown that should establish him as a Giant King proper. I’ve been reading One Piece long enough to know what Oda setting up a big character moment looks like, and this has all the telltale signs.
The Roadblocks He’s Facing
Then let’s get real about where Hajrudin is at the moment:
Power Gap: He lost to Gear 2nd Luffy at Dressrosa and currently underpowered against top-ranking pirates. That’s not great when the Straw Hats are up against Yonko-class enemies.
No Haki (Yet): He hasn’t shown any kind of Haki yet, which I’ve already mentioned before, but this is worth mentioning again because it’s all too important.
Family Drama: Between his mixed parentage and the political strife with Loki are a lot of hang-ups that extend beyond brawling. And this is not just strength, it’s worth.
How He Can Actually Catch Up
This is what I believe must happen in order for Hajrudin to reach his ceiling:
Training with the Right People
If he actually fights Straw Hat Haki-users, then people like Luffy or Zoro could easily get him Armament Haki through some actual combat experience. We’ve seen this process happen in One Piece already — intense battles leading to growth. Hajrudin’s already proven he can eat shots, now it’s just time to prove he can serve them up at the next level.
The Ancient Fruit Hunt
Tapping into Elbaf’s royal vaults or linking with allied pirates in search of leads to an ancient Devil Fruit would be smart. If there’s a fruit tied to his family history, well that isn’t just a power-up. it’s a story arc waiting in the wings.
Unite the Giants
Rallying the giants of Elbaf around him as their leader would be a boost both moral and collective strength. Hajrudin’s not just forming a crew. he’s rebuilding a culture. That is the kind of leadership that makes someone worthy of a throne.
FAQ About Hajrudin, Answered
Will Hajrudin actually get Haki?
He’ll very likely bring out Armament/conqueror’s haki during the Elbaf arc, most likely in a dispute with Loki. It’s too easy for that not to end up happening, the way this setup works.
Is he using a Devil Fruit at the moment?
And nope, still no Devil Fruit. It’s fun to entertain some theories, but we have yet to have any official confirmation.
What is his true goal in the Elbaf Arc?
He seeks to unite Elbaf’s giants under honorable leadership, assert his birthright, and aid Luffy’s grander mission. It’s personal ambition married to loyalty, and that’s classic One Piece character motivation.
Where can I read more about him that doesn’t cost me?
Manga Plus from Shueisha provides official free chapters, and you can read the latest one. The One Piece Wiki features similarly in-depth character breakdowns if you’re ready to dive deep into lore.
Why Hajrudin Matters Moving Forward
This is my impression after following this character from Dressrosa: Hajrudin’s combination of raw giant strength, unbreakable pride and leadership ambition makes him one of the most interesting next generation characters whose story promises to be a dramatic rise.
He’s not just “the big strong guy.” He’s complex: royal blood, warrior culture, loyalty to Luffy, goals for his people. When Oda puts so much background and positioning on a character, it means something big big is coming.
Hajrudin seems like a bit of an afterthought in the Elbaf Arc. We have seen him as the underdog, the devoted friend, the ambitious prince. Now we’re going to find out whether he can really fulfill all that potential. And honestly? I think he will.
It matters way less if or how he’ll obtain Haki, a Devil Fruit, or both and more like worthy to be the one to lead Elbaf. That’s the real test. And power is merely the filter one uses to get there.
So yeah, if you’ve been sleeping on One Piece’s Hajrudin now’s the time to wake up. The guy’s just beginning his story.
