I’ve been reading One Piece for a long time, and Chapter 1162 totally revised everything that we understood about the God Valley Incident. I’m still processing it all.
Rocks Was Protecting His Family
Here’s the one that hurt me most: Rocks D. Xebec wasn’t just some power-starving villain he had fought to protect his wife Eris and son Teach (a.k.a Blackbeard) during the God Valley battle. And the man was literally fighting with one freaking hand and getting his family out, destroying Holy Knights left and right.
Rocks was showing off advanced Conqueror’s Haki coating on his sword, which places him in the same class as Roger and Whitebeard. But what the hell made him insane was he did so knowing he had his people (the Davy Clan) being hunted by the World Govt!
Imu Shows Up in the Worst Way
It turned out that Imu was occupying the body of Saint Saturn and he’d showed up at God Valley as a monstrous spider-ish demon called “Gyuuki.” This isn’t anything new for Im, we got the same possession gimmick a little while back in Elbaf with Gunko. It’s confirmed smth I’ve long suspected but now it’s absolutely clear: the real rumble at God Valley was never Roger and Garp vs Rocks. It was Rocks vs. Imu.
The prevailing account of it has Garp as the hero who took down Rocks, but that’s just World Government propaganda. They erased Imu’s involvement completely. Classic cover-up.
Kaido’s Betrayal Makes Sense Now
Remember when everyone thought Kaido and Big Mom’s alliance in Wano was going to be weird? Chapter 1162 gives us an answer to why Kaido attacked Big Mom with his kanabo and stole the Azure Dragon Devil Fruit that was meant for Katakuri. He was annoyed she wasn’t inviting him to eat a fruit first, so he simply took one and flew off.
Such a backstory gives so much weight to their Wano dynamic. They were one double, triple or quadruple cross away from undermining each other.
The Lulusia Connection Hurts
Eris told Rocks “see you in Lulusia” before the two parted ways and Lulusia is the kingdom Imu wiped from existence using an Ancient Weapon in the current timeline. The Davy Clan had been sought after for generations, and Imu’s been systematically blasting their hideouts off the map. That’s brutal.
Why This Chapter Matters
Chapter 1162 isn’t simply backstory it’s the backstop for the final war. Blackbeard being Rocks son = Luffy (Garp grandchild) vs Blackbeard is the Roger/Garp vs Xebec fight that has transcended generations. It’s all cyclical in One Piece, and Oda’s been building to this for more than 1,100 chapters.
The power scaling by itself is bonkers. And if Rocks matched up against Imu and gave him a fight, what does that mean for the current generation? Rocks was not defeated by one person it was actually Roger, Garp and Imu all weakening him first.
FAQs
Is Rocks really Blackbeard’s father?
Yeah, Chapter 1162 confirms it. Rocks’ son is Teach, and now it makes sense why Luffy/Blackbeard parallel in the same manner as Garp/Rocks.
Why Whitebeard did not try to out Teach an arafalee?
Whitebeard’s entire ethos was “we all come from the sea” he was indifferent to parentage. Maybe he knew and did it anyway Teach a family, which makes the betrayal even more painful.
Had Garp been aware of the Native Hunting Competition?
No chapter confirms that Garp didn’t know about the CDæs crimes until he visited GV. He’s not an accomplice to that horror.
Will Blackbeard have Conqueror’s Haki?
Not announced yet, but safe bets. It’s passed down to all the most powerful Conqueror’s Haki users (Dragon to Luffy, etc.). If Rocks had overtaken Conqueror’s Haki, Blackbeard got it he just hasn’t shown it, yet.
